Solarwinds Inc. Technical Writer / Editor in Ottawa, Ontario

Overview

  • Develops technical content to support product delivery and maintenance.

  • Performs editorial review and formatting of Help documents and Knowledge Base articles that conforms to company documentation and quality assurance standards, for internal and external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to describe complex and technical topics clearly and accurately in a way that is appropriate for the target audience. This one is important. Our products do some pretty cool stuff, and we need to be able to communicate it clearly to our users.

  • Proven technical editing skills including the ability to edit for accuracy, brevity, clarity. Time is money for our customers and when using any aspect of our documentation they want to get straight to the relevant information as quickly as possible.

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members. As they say, it takes a village. You need to be able to comfortably interact with members on your immediate Information Development team, as well as Engineering, Support, and all of the other teams at SolarWinds that come together to bring our products to the greater IT community.

  • Excellent English writing and comprehension skills including excellent knowledge of American English and grammar.

  • Willingness and ability to organize a varied workload.

  • Demonstrated ability to work and adapt in a fast-paced environment. Not kidding with this one. It’s fast, but it’s fun.

  • Proficiency with HTML and CSS. Familiar with best practices for web content.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 4 years' experience in a Software technology environment working as a technical writer/editor.

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in English, Communications, or other relevant field is desirable.

  • Experience writing for on-premises and cloud monitoring and management software.

  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.

  • Working knowledge of MadCap Flare, Bitbucket, Atlassian Confluence, and TechSmith Camtasia.

  • Experience writing using Minimalism techniques, Structured Authoring, or Information Mapping techniques.
