Solarwinds MSP has been experiencing explosive growth and success with our SAAS offerings and are seeking a top, customer service oriented, Operations Engineer to be part of our next wave of growth. Solarwinds MSP develops and operates a set of global SAAS solutions including; Remote Monitoring and Management systems, Managed Security solutions, Data Backup, and eMail security. These services are SAAS offerings that run 24*7 and service thousands of customers worldwide. Recognition of continued accelerated business growth has created the opportunity for a dedicated Performance and Capacity Planning Engineer within the team.
The successful candidate will have prior experience working in high volume SAAS environments and will interface with operational, software engineering, and IT staff, as well as non-technical professional teams (such as sales and support). The role will be responsible for gathering business and technology data and trends in order to develop and implement trend based and predictive KPIs used to forecast capacity changes. We promote close collaborative working relationships between the development and operations teams, as well as the non-technical business. Individuals who have prior experience working in a DevOps environment will most comfortable with our development and deployment models.
Establish and maintain a capacity and performance management program for our SAAS products.
Incorporate business input (e.g. sales forecasts, new features, etc), trend information, and technical advances to produce a rolling capacity assessment.
Leverage Configuration Management Database (CMDB) or equivalent systems, to map the relationship of business service workloads to their associated infrastructure.
Provide input to modeling capabilities with real transactional data to right-size infrastructure environments for workload peaks, taking into account throughput and response times, while reducing risk of capacity related performance issues.
Compare the performance of new implementation with the performance levels predicted by previous models, and determine where the predictions were on the mark or not, and why?. Make appropriate adjustments in the calibration of predictive models, and help foster more intelligent analysis and predictions for future deployments and initiatives.
Establish KPIs and service level agreements around key application performance areas, and manage compliance to these SLAs.
Build or acquire new tools, as well as gain familiarity with existing tools already in play, to be instrumental in performance monitoring and testing.
Experience with performing load testing and simulations to benchmark performance.
Work with the development teams to ensure alignment of development needs and timelines with infrastructure capacity and capabilities.
Inform a TCO-based approach for capacity planning and performance management.

Education / Experience
Bachelors or Master’s degree in appropriate technical discipline.
5+ year’s relevant technical experience. Experience with providing SAAS/Hosted delivery required.
Experience designing and implementing SAAS solutions at scale.
Expert level technical skills with Linux, Windows, storage and network infrastructure.
Solid hands on experience with public cloud providers and technologies; AWS a must.
Strong MySQL experience including database performance monitoring and tuning.
Working experience of DevOps in a global environment highly desired.
Ideal candidate will have a strong background in high-throughput, performant operational infrastructure support environments, with an understanding of how infrastructure choices, application architecture, and business needs intersect to define any given application’s performance footprint.
Working knowledge, experience and certification in AWS (and other) Cloud Platforms
Experience with Statistical Modeling, including regression and correlation analysis
Experience with reporting tools such as Tableau
