Solarwinds Inc. Corporate Counsel in Morrisville, NC, North Carolina
SolarWinds is looking for a Privacy and Technology Counsel to be a component of our legal team. This position will report in to the Assistant General Counsel and be responsible for providing advice and counsel regarding data protection and regulatory compliance for SolarWinds’ operations globally with a focus on privacy, data governance, cybersecurity, and technology. The successful candidate will research emerging areas of law, evaluate and mitigate risks, and provide subject matter expertise in negotiating privacy and cybersecurity language in agreements.
The Privacy and Technology Counsel will work as part of a cross-functional team of data professionals in the Legal group supporting SolarWinds Security, Engineering, and Product teams.
Works closely with internal business teams on long-term data protection projects to guide their implementation of privacy controls.
Assesses the risk of complying with emerging changes in privacy law and balancing the goals of growth and scaling with the risk to our data protection requirements.
Provides subject matter expertise to the commercial legal and sales teams during negotiation of privacy and data protection agreements.
Advises business teams on day to day questions about data privacy obligations and commitments.
Helps assess the risk to the business of changes in data processing and advising business teams on new or changed uses of data.
Develops new policy documents in response to changes in legal requirements.
Coordinates with the Incident Response teams.
Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager’s discretion.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates):
Any IAPP certifications, such as CIPP/US, CIPP/G, CIPM, or CIPT, will be considered a plus.
Other certifications in the cybersecurity, risk management, and fraud prevention areas are also a plus.
Minimum of 5-7 years privacy, security, or technology legal experience. In-house legal experience a plus.
The following experiences are preferred:
o Experience negotiating contracts with customers and vendors, including data protection terms.
o Experience with data governance, data mapping, and the data lifecycle.
o Experience responding to data breach situations or managing data breach notifications.
o Experience with advising a business on navigating the rapidly evolving privacy law landscape.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Knowledge of enterprise technology and SaaS solutions.
Knowledge of IT risk management and Information Security principles.
Functional knowledge of common privacy and cybersecurity regulatory frameworks (e.g., CCPA, HIPAA, NIST CSF, and FTC guidelines, etc.).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with employees at all levels of the organization, including effectively communicating with executive level employees.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
Ability to adapt to a fast paced continually changing business and work environment while managing multiple priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
