Solarwinds Inc. Employee Relations Specialist in Austin, Texas


As SolarWinds’ Employee Relations Specialist, you will ensure that all employee relations issues are consistently and effectively managed in accordance with SolarWinds’ policy, and federal and state-mandated regulations. This includes conducting confidential and complex investigations, working with managers to build performance improvement plans, performance coaching, policy interpretation, compliance, terminations, and exit interviews. You will also work closely with the HR Business Partners to keep them apprised of what is happening within their client groups, as well as identifying opportunities for improvement as it relates to, processes, coaching new managers, etc.


  • Provide expertise and consultation to determine the root-cause resolution for a variety of workplace issues.

  • Resolve employee relations issues in a fair, consistent, timely and accurate manner while keeping aligned with SolarWinds' policies and procedures to minimize potential legal risk.

  • Serve as liaison between Managers and employees when needed.

  • Coordinate with the Manager to provide information on addressing non-routine issues and making policy and procedural changes.

  • Escalate highly sensitive or non-resolved issues to HR Leadership.

  • Partner with Managers, HRBP's and other COE's to resolve employee relations issues.

  • Identify trends and provide input to Manager and COE's to gather the right attention needed to resolve issues.

  • Provides advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices, policy and employment laws.

  • Guide management on the appropriate interpretation of organizational policy and procedures in the areas of associate/management issues.

  • Monitor and ensure the effective use of data to report key metrics and trends and to create actionable data for coaching and development.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert to HR colleagues and customers on a variety of HR topics specifically those pertaining to policy interpretation, new policies, legislative changes, employment law, etc.

  • Lead complex investigations relating to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage & hour, and other potentially high-profile cases and recommend suitable corrective action.

  • Identify and understand issues, problems, and opportunities; compare data from different sources to draw conclusions; use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; take action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences.

  • Provide assistance in generating and distributing required reports by developing queries for analysis and operational effectiveness.

  • Process employee exits/terminations via exit interviews and ensuring all is recorded in the HRIS accordingly.


  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Human Resources or relevant work experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in employee relations or Sr. HR generalist experience

  • Deep knowledge of legal and regulatory aspects within US employment and labor laws (State & Federal)

  • Possess resilience and ability to handle high volume and pivot within a dynamic environment

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills required

  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to build cross-functional relationships and interact effectively

  • Ability to analyze facts, exercise sound judgment, and make decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to prepare written reports, correspondence, and presentations

  • Strong consultancy (negotiation and influencing skills, ability to influence and drive positive change) needed for consensus building

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification preferred

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365, Sharepoint)
