Overview:

SolarWinds is undergoing explosive growth and success with our SAAS offerings—we are seeking a top level DevOps leader to be part of our next wave of growth. The successful candidate will have prior experience managing high volume SAAS environments and will be a key member of the leadership staff responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable and highly available hybrid cloud environments. We have implemented a successful global development operations team has improved scale across the product offerings while still providing tight alignment with the development teams. The global team provides a matrix approach to 7x24 infrastructure engineering and specialized support services, such as performance and capacity planning, database engineering, automation and infrastructure orchestration, and other services, delivered via both internal resources and partner relationships. This individual will have direct staff responsibilities for the global DevOps team members and will collaborate with their peers in the product teams to ensure a high level of operational service delivery, consistency, and efficiency.

This position offers an outstanding opportunity to work with a team on the cutting-edge of SAAS solutions including; Remote Monitoring and Management systems, Managed Security solutions, Data Backup, and eMail security. These services are SAAS offerings that run 24x7 service for hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide. The platforms are predominantly Linux-based servers utilizing MySQL databases, on open platforms such as JAVA and PHP, running in hybrid environments within public and private cloud environments as well as on bare metal. Your role is critical to the success of the business—to ensure that these services are scalable, highly available, secure and responsive.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage DevOps Engineering, develop team members, and implement best practices.

  • Advocate for DevOps force multiplier concepts such as automation, monitoring, and elasticity, virtualization, as well as other infrastructure abstraction mechanisms such as containerization

  • Primary liaison with product development teams concerning support of product delivery timelines.

  • Expert level technical skills and able to provide mentoring to team members.

  • Plan, manage and provide systems infrastructure and application support

  • Responsible for availability, security and performance of all operational systems

  • Participate in the architecture and design of the company’s operational systems.

  • Develop and implement operational best practices while maintaining agility

  • Manage relationships with hosting providers and other suppliers

  • LAMP and Java application and operating system support for 24x7 business.

Qualifications:

Education / Experience

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in appropriate technical discipline.

  • 5+ year’s relevant technical experience, with a minimum of 5 years of staff management experience.

  • Industry certifications desired. Security certifications highly desirable.

  • Experience designing and implementing SAAS solutions at scale in cloud/dedicated hybrid environments

  • Apache web farms running high-volume database-driven applications – ideally RHCE qualified or equivalent GNU/Linux experience or qualification

  • Advanced TCP/IP networking experience and understanding

  • Strong MySQL experience including database tuning, high availability, replication and optimization.

  • Experience with tools for automation of deployment, monitoring and management of systems, such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Vagrant, Nagios, Zabbix, Pagerduty, and custom utilities as needed

  • Scripting and systems-related programming skills

  • Network, OS and Application monitoring tools, such as Munin, Nagios, Cacti, Zabbix, and of course, SolarWinds

  • Working experience of DevOps in a global environment
