SolarWinds is actively seeking a Sr. Product Marketing Manager to drive thought leadership, go-to-market strategy and competitive differentiation for its suite of security and monitoring services for managed service providers (MSPs).

The role is part of a global product marketing team and can be based in Durham (NC), Austin (TX), Ottawa (CA), or Boulder (CO).

  • Market Definition – Identify and validate urgent, pervasive problems in your designated market by interviewing customers, recent evaluators and potential buyers. Map their needs with target markets and analyze the market segments to pursue. Define buyer and user personas.

  • Product Positioning and Messaging – Describe the product in terms of its ability to solve market problems, and create crisp and compelling messages that drive market acceptance and growth. Capture the imagination of IT professionals with a fresh and creative approach.

  • Thought Leadership – Generate insightful & compelling content (webinars, blogs, e-books, etc.) to influence customers, buyers, industry specialists, research analysts, key editors in the press and other third parties. Act as spokesperson for the SolarWinds MSP Security Suite.

  • Product Launch – Own the product launch process and plan to ensure that all business functions are prepared for new product releases. Ensure that new features and releases get the needed visibility and exposure, both externally and with Sales, to achieve revenue goals.

  • Sales Tools – Work closely with Sales to understand their challenges and needs relative to selling the offering, and create and maintain a playbook of sales tools to help Sales succeed, including characteristics of good/bad opportunities, buyer insights, key messages and sales collateral.

  • Competitive Analysis – Collaborate with Sales, Sales Engineering, and Support teams to identify competitive and alternative offerings in the market, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and develop a strategy for winning against the competition.

  • Event and Sales Support – Provide product and market expertise for tradeshows, webinars and seminars. Provide ongoing support for the sales channel.

  • Sales Training – Design and deliver training programs to help salespeople focus on how to sell the SolarWinds MSP Security Suite, not how to use it.

  • Voice of Customer – Act as “messenger of the market” and “voice of the customer” to influence the product roadmap and drive customer retention and growth. Document customer successes and key use cases to drive repeatability and scale.


  • 5+ years of progressive product marketing experience with enterprise software, preferably in Software as a Service (SaaS) environments

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to express technical concepts in the form of crisp, value-based messages

  • Ability to navigate and thrive in a cross-functional, highly matrixed environment, on a global scale

  • 3+ years of experience producing creative, memorable, high-impact thought leadership and marketing content, and acting as a key influencer and spokesperson in the market

  • Strong technical and sales orientation

Desired Experience:

  • Experience marketing or selling to Managed Service Providers (MSPs) strongly preferred

  • Experience marketing or selling IT security services strongly preferred

  • Experience connecting with and relating to both Product Management and Sales to act as the bridge between the two

  • BA/BS degree

  • Prior experience with IT service management (ITSM) software – RMM, Backup, Service Desk – and/or IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

  • Pragmatic Marketing Certification (PMC)
